What is SITS (51023-76-8) used for?
SITS (4,4'-diisothiocyano-2,2'-stilbenedisulfonic acid) is a fluorescent probe that is used for the specific and reversible labeling of the outer components of the plasma membrane. It is a light yellow solid that reacts with a fixed number of sites on the surface of cells concerned with anion permeation. SITS does not pass through the osmotic barrier of the membrane and reacts under physiological conditions of temperature, pH, and tonicity. It is detectable in small amounts and has a maximum absorption wavelength of 336 nm and a maximum emission wavelength of 436 nm.
